If you love all things arts and crafts, floral and wall decor, and do-it-yourself home decorations, you’ve most likely shopped at your local Michaels store at some point. Michaels Stores, Inc. is the largest arts and crafts supplier in North America. But have you ever tried making a return there?

Thankfully, the return and refund process for Michaels is pretty simple and straightforward. As a bonus, there’s not a ton of exceptions that you need to worry about. Before you head to your local store with return in hand, though, read below. The Guide To Making a Return at Michaels

How long do I have to return items to Michaels?

If you’re not completely satisfied with your products, Michaels gives you 60 days from the date of purchase to return any items. There are some conditions that may make a return take longer or make it a bit more of a hassle to do, so read on for those.

Are there exceptions to the Michaels return policy?

Yes, there are a few exceptions to the Michaels return policy. Things like gift cards and prepaid cards can’t be returned or exchanged. Other items, like Cricut® merchandise, must be returned unopened and accompanied by a receipt. Keep in mind, though, that if the item is damaged or defective while under warranty, it’ll have to be returned directly to the manufacturer.

Another exception to the return policy has to do with custom framing orders. If you don’t love your custom frame, don’t worry. Michaels will rework it. Just make sure you take the frame to the same store that did the work within 14 days of the original pickup date.

Additionally, if you’ve signed up for a class that you can no longer attend, you need to do the refund at the store you signed up at initially. They can still process your cancellation the day the class is scheduled to start, however!

Does Michaels allow exchanges?

Unfortunately, the arts and crafts supply company doesn’t allow exchanges. If you’re not happy with the product you’ve received and would like a replacement, you’ll need to follow the return policy and purchase the item separately.

Will Michaels accept returns after 60 days?

If you’ve exceeded the 60-day return policy window but still need to make a return, you’re in luck. Michaels will still accept the return and give you the full refundable amount as in-store credit.

How will I be refunded for my return?

In-store returns accompanied by a receipt will be refunded in the same form as the original payment. However, if your original payment was made using a debit card, the refund will come back to you in cash. If a gift card was used, the refund will be issued on a Store Return Card.

What if you no longer have the original receipt? As long as the item hasn’t been marked for clearance, Michaels will apply the refund to a Store Return Card. That said, the amount refunded will be for the item’s lowest price in the past 90 days.

If the item has been moved to clearance and you can’t provide a receipt, or it’s final sale, the arts and crafts supply store can’t offer a refund in any form.

Refunds for online purchases work the same way as in-store refunds. If, for some reason, you can’t seem to locate the original packing slip or confirmation email, the store associates at your Michaels store can help. They can find the original order by either searching their computer database using your personal information like name or phone number, or by looking up the credit or debit card used at the time of purchase.

When returning merchandise from an online order, be aware that there’s a possibility of Michaels deducting some or all of the shipping and handling fees from your refund. Unfortunately, the only real exclusion to this rule is if the arts and crafts supply store itself is deemed responsible for the product error or damage.

What is the Michaels return policy on clearance items?

Michaels’s return policy on clearance items is pretty easy from what we’ve seen. Just like any other merchandise, simply return the item with its receipt to your local store for a full refund. If you don’t have a receipt and a store associate can’t find one in the system, Michaels won’t be able to offer any type of refund.

There are a couple of exceptions to this part of the return policy, though. The first being any merchandise that has been marked ‘Final Sale.’ Whether it’s a clearance item or something marked at full price, if the product bears the words ‘Final Sale,’ Michaels can’t accept it as a return and won’t be able to honor a refund. These items are sold as-is with the understanding that the customer assumes all liability of the product, including any damage or deformity, so Michaels bears no responsibility after purchase.

What is the Michaels return policy on sale items?

The 60-day return policy also applies to sale items. If you provide a receipt, the original amount will be refunded. Without a receipt, the amount will be for the item’s lowest selling price in the past 90 days.

What is the Michaels return policy without receipt?

Are you needing to return your recently purchased arts and crafts supplies or another Michaels product but just can’t seem to find the original receipt? Don’t panic. Store associates can look up purchase history with the credit or debit card used at the time of purchase, as well as any transactions completed using Michaels Rewards points as a form of payment.

If you still can’t find the receipt and the purchase was made with cash, Michaels may still give you a refund. Just remember that the refund amount will be put on a Store Return Card, the amount will be for the item’s lowest price in the past 90 days, and a valid ID must be presented and recorded by the store associate processing your return.

Remember that if the item you’re returning has moved to ‘clearance’ and you don’t have a receipt, the arts and crafts supply company won’t be able to honor a refund.

What is the Michaels return policy for online orders? Can I return online purchases in-store?

Similar to the in-store return policy, you can return items purchased from Michaels.com within 60 days from the date of purchase with the receipt. If you can’t find the receipt, your confirmation email counts! Be sure the new and unused product is still in its original packaging. The exceptions are online-only costumes and accessory kits — which must be returned seven days before the associated holiday — and non-returnable sample products.

You also have the option to return the merchandise either to your local Michaels store or through the mail with United Parcel Service (UPS). If mailing your return is more convenient, simply call Customer Care at 1-800-MICHAELS (1-800-642-4235) and an agent will provide you with a shipping label via email. You’ll easily be able to print the label, attach it to your package, and drop it off at your local UPS location.

Once received, the company says to give them three to five business days to issue a refund. Keep in mind the full return process via mail can take up to 14 business days to complete, depending on delivery schedules.

What is the Michaels return policy for Cricut® items?

Cricut® items are only accepted for returns if the packaging is unopened and accompanied by the original receipt. If your items were damaged or are found to be defective during the warranty period, you’ll want to contact the manufacturer directly for their returns process.

What is the Michaels return policy on Christmas trees?

Because the company doesn’t have a separate return policy for holidays, Christmas tree returns follow the same guidelines as any other Michaels product.

Can I return open or used items to Michaels?

The only way Michaels will accept returns on open or used items is if the item is found to be defective. Otherwise, they must be unused and in the original packaging.
