What is the CVS Coupon policy? (Updated 2020)

Following CVS coupon policy when it comes to shopping sales or using coupons to save money at your local CVS will ensure a smooth and pleasant shopping experience. You might think these guidelines are obvious. But, even we are sometimes left scratching our heads at the rules of shopping with coupons at various stores around town. We do find if you politely ask for a manager, they’ll be able to get you just what you need and get you on your way fast. We have broken down the CVS coupon policy for you and hope it helps you save more at CVS.

Get the CVS ExtraCare® Card to Save More!

Wait I thought this was about CVS coupon policy, well it is but if you coupon at CVS and don’t have an extracare card you are missing out. A great way to save even more at CVS is to sign up for an ExtraCare card. You’ll receive ExtraCare coupons to use on your next visit each time you shop via printed or digital receipts. You can also find coupons and additional discounts on the CVS Pharmacy mobile app or at CVS.com. Quarterly ExtraBucks Rewards, circular ExtraBucks Rewards, BeautyClub ExtraBucks Rewards, and Pharmacy & Health ExtraBucks Rewards are all types of ExtraCare discounts that you will want to earn and use at CVS.

Sending coupons directly to your CVS ExtraCare card via the mobile app, digital receipts, and CVS Pharmacy email will ensure you are receiving all the deals and you never miss out. To load deals to your card simply click the Send-to-Card® icon and view the success indicator on the landing page to ensure it was properly loaded. When using your deals, scan your card at time of purchase and the CVS colleague will make sure it’s put towards your purchase. The cards also keep track of all the coupons and ExtraBucks Rewards, Quarterly ExtraBucks Rewards throughout the store. If you have a digital coupon and paper coupon before your trip if you want to use the paper coupon make sure to remove the digital coupon from your CVS card. If you don’t remove the digital coupon the system will automatically use it and then you can use your paper coupon on that item.

CVS Policy Highlights You Need to Know

  • Be kind and carry the coupon policy. If the cashier disagrees or is unsure, just politely ask for the CVS Manager and they will be glad to assist. Print and carry the official CVS coupon policy. You can ask the manager to show you why that coupon or deal won’t work, or if you know it should work according to the CVS coupon policy you can politely point it out to them. (In most cases the CVS cashiers are friendly and willing to make things work once they understand.)
  • All coupons must be presented during checkout, be legible and have a scannable barcode. CVS will not accept copied, scanned, altered, mobile scans or expired coupons per the CVS Coupon Policy.
  • To ensure you are getting all discounts, especially those loaded you’re your card, CVS Pharmacy Coupons or Extra Bucks rewards, please present the ExtraCare card immediately at checkout. This way they will scan your card before any items to ensure you get all the discounts.
  • Per the CVS coupon policy, Individual coupon value cannot exceed the value of the item it to which it is applied.
  • CVS Pharmacy coupons generally cannot be used on sale, promotional or clearance items. Other restrictions may apply.  You can only use one time‐, brand‐, or category specific CVS Pharmacy coupon and one manufacturer’s coupon per qualifying item unless prohibited by either coupon.
  • CVS honors manufacturer limitations. And remember, CVS has the right to refuse or limit the use of any coupon and/or any returns for any reason.
  • Multiple coupons can be used, on sale items as well, as long as all qualification are met. (Note for multiple coupons you cannot use multiple manufacturer coupons on one item, you would need to have a one Manufacturer coupon, one CVS coupon.)
  • Depending on the type of coupon, some coupons are charged tax pre-coupon price, except in the following states, CT, MA, MO, PA, TX, the tax is often charge after the coupon is applied.
  • Look for individual product limits when purchasing multiples of any one product. While CVS does not place limits, individual stores can.
  • Percentage off coupons can only be used on regular priced items. While CVS allows percent off coupons to be used with regular priced/non-promotional items, if there are exclusions to the rule, they’ll print it on the sign at the product on display.
  • For any ECB’s or CVS rewards you have loaded on your card you will need to tell your cashier if you want to use it during the transaction. You don’t have to use them. One reason you wouldn’t want to use them is to maximize your savings as when you use an ECB lets say for $10 and you only spent $5 well you lose that other $5. So make sure when using an ECB your total is right at or even over the value of the ECB. (Yes you can use ECB’s and Coupons)
  • Coupons or ECB’s past their expiration will not be excepted. I know in the past sometimes ECB’s have been accepted past expiration date but they are no longer supposed to do this. So make sure to use them before they expire!
  • Reading the fine print on your coupons before your shopping trip will ensure a speedy time at the register.
